OnePlus has no plans to left behind as Huawei, Samsung launch the first 5G phones in 2019. OnePlus becomes the latest player to join the 5G enabled phones. The Chinese company has confirmed that a 5G phone is slated to release in the early half of 2019. Carl Pei, the co-founder of OnePlus, himself, confirmed for us a “5G phone” launch in 2019.
The 5G device is reported to launch in Europe first. OnePlus no longer can claim that it is launching the first 5G phone but it proudly touts the 5G launch as one of the first. Huawei, on the other hand, becomes the first 5G phone launching company. Carl Pei at a recent event confirmed that in launching the “5G phone”, Samsung has teamed up with Qualcomm.
Will the phone be called OnePlus 7?
Fact is that this “5G phone” will become the next launch after OnePlus 6. Some say OnePlus will choose to rename the phone while others say that OnePlus will stick with the same name. The nomenclature is debatable as of now. Carl Pei said that OnePlus has been working since 2016 now, just to bring a 5G phone on the global level. The device name however, remains unnamed for now. But the progress on this “5G phone” is faster than ever. Carl Pei claimed that OnePlus has tested the “5G phone” at Qualcomm’s headquarters in San Diego back in August of 2018.
In another news, at the newest OnePlus 6T launch OnePlus CEO Pete Lau confirmed that “5G phone” will be the first 5G phone to launch in Europe. OnePlus 6T comes with a Snapdragon 845 processor. At the same time, Lau mentioned that time has become conducive for a 5G phone. No where in the world have 5G networks/ infrastructures set up and built. But there is no quell in demand from the customers.
Lau, the CEO says that more than anything OnePlus wants to know the scope of the 5G network, what it can bring to the table. 5G might be a real game changer in the coming year but the LTE won’t go. The 5G will work with LTE too. 5G might take time to widen its reach so a new handset that enables 5G and LTE will also be launched.
So this means OnePlus customers will be eyeing two 5G flagships phones. Like I mentioned before Huawei and Samsung lead the game. Others such as Asus, HMD Global, LG, Motorola, Oppo, Sony, vivo and Xiaomi will follow the suit.
