Sony Patent Suggests PlayStation Controller With a Touchscreen

Sony has been rumored to be working on a new addition to PlayStation series, and there is a lot of buzz going on around the internet about it. Meanwhile, we have found a patent which is indicating a new development in Sony’s game controller.

As we know, Sony has not made a significant change in the PlayStation controller from around two decades, except a LED screen in the front and a big fat touch sensitive button which is only utilized for pausing the game till now.

Sony Patent Suggests PlayStation Controller With a Touchscreen

However, a new patent from Sony suggests a further advancement in the controller, and it will sport a touchscreen. So, we can assume that how much potential will that second screen have. It could be used from showing a mini-map to providing information in action games such as an equipped weapon or several in-game stats.

Nonetheless, this is just a patent, so we are not confident whether there will be a touchscreen in the upcoming DualShock controller for PS5 or not. But still, if Sony adds a touchscreen in the controller, then it would surely be one of the most enjoyable experience. Many other gaming consoles have tried to make similar efforts in their consoles, such as Nintendo Wii U or Sega Dreamcast.

Nevertheless, Wii U and Sega Dreamcast were a failure, but Sony will make their new development a hit for sure. I am certainly hoping that the massive touchpad in the center of the controller would be replaced by a touchscreen, making it more useful than ever!
